Luka Modric is ready for what is possibly his
team’s toughest away match in the Champions League group stage. The
midfielder is clear that Real Madrid are on the verge of qualifying for
the Round of 16 and that Juventus Stadium would be a great place to do
it. "We are not afraid of Juventus. They are a great team that we
respect, but we are not afraid of them. They have a great squad with
great players, and when you play big matches like this you want the best
players from the other team to play against you", he told the Bwin
website.
The Croatian also spoke about his aims for this season and about how he prepares for European Cup matches: "Personally
I want to play my best and help my team to win all of the matches and
trophies possible. I prepare for Champions League matches in the usual
way, the same as for a league match. There is not much difference
between getting ready for one or the other".When asked about the best moment in his career, he said: "There are several: my debut for Croatia against Argentina, my move to Real Madrid and my goal at Old Trafford ... Nevertheless, I hope the best moment of my career is still to come". About the work he does on the pitch when he doesn’t have the ball, he said: "You try to defend as well as you can. You try to help your teammates to get the ball back quickly".
When asked how it feels to walk out on to the turf at the Santiago Bernabéu, he said: "I feel very excited. The stadium is amazing, the fans as well and I'm excited when I go out on to the field. I enjoy every moment". About the Real Madrid players that he has always admired and his childhood hero, he said: "There are so many great players that have played for Real Madrid ... Looking back, there were Di Stefano, Puskas. More recently Raul and Zidane, one of our coaches. Cristiano, who is the past, present and future of this team. They are the players I admire the most, but my hero as a child was Zvonimir Boban. He played more than 10 years at Milan and is one of the best players in Croatian history".
About what it means to play for Real Madrid and the teammate in the squad that he most admires, he said: "It is a great honour. This is a great club and we have a squad full of great players, stars and I admire them all. I do not want to mention names. We have so many good players in the team...".
Finally, about the emotions that football creates and how it feels to win a match, he was clear: "Football is about passion and joy. That's what I feel when we win: joy and happiness. Winning a match means we have done a good job".
